Golf Courses near the British Masters 2019

Want to play golf as well as watching the British Masters? There are plenty of spectacular golf courses in Liverpool and the surrounding areas. Here are just some of our favourites:

Royal Birkdale Golf Club

One of the top 5 golf courses in the UK and within the top 35 in the entire world. Royal Birkdale Golf Club has everything any golfer could ever want. It is one of the clubs in the rotation for The Open Championship and it also hosts the Women’s British Open. The 18 hole course which was opened in 1897 is located parallel to the sea with unrivaled views of the ocean with a refreshing sea breeze for you to enjoy during your stay.

Formby Golf Club

Founded in 1884, this coastal 18 hole course that stretches out over 7000 meters provider golfers with a stiff challenge navigating its many hazards and pine forests located on three sides of the course. The club itself is relatively unknown due to the fact that the three other courses listed here are so immensely popular and known worldwide. However, don’t let that take away from the fact that this is a very unique course with a great atmosphere and requires very skillful golfing to complete.

Royal Lytham & Saint Annes Golf Club

Opened in 1886 by George Lowe, the course itself has moved about half a mile inland over the course of time and was redesigned by the trio of Harry Colt, Herbert Fowler and Tom Simpson. It was then later again modified by C.K Cotton and Frank Pennink. It is one of the toughest courses in all of the UK with an extremely rough terrain making it one of the most challenging even for the most experienced golfers. The club has also played host to a number of Ryder Cups over the years.

Royal Liverpool Golf Club

Located just 10 miles south west of Liverpool City, Royal Liverpool Golf Club was founded in 1869 and the 18 hole course has been modified many times down through the years. It now stretches just over 7000 meters and only a few of its holes are protected by the dunes with the rest of them at the mercy of the winds. This is an extremely tough course to play as the terrain is rugged and natural. The club itself has hosted the The Open Championship a number of times, most recently in 2014 when Rory McIlroy was the winner.

The 2019 Irish Open Course

Golf at Lahinch can be dated all the way back to 1892. Assisted by officers of the Scottish ‘Black Watch’ regiment who were stationed at Limerick, three locals laid out an 18-hole course.

Fast forwarding to today, Lahinch golf course is still an absolutely fantastic golf course. A top tip is to take note of any goats sheltering near the clubhouse. Oh, and don’t forget your umbrella!

The course itself is commonly known as the ‘St Andrews of Ireland’ and lies extremely close to a 2km stretch of one of the finest beaches in Ireland, people from all around Ireland and abroad come to visit it during the summer sunshine.

Don’t miss out on the world class golf on offer from some of the best golfers on the planet right now. Lahinch is the place to be this summer.
