Must-Visit Golf Courses in Aquitaine

Golf de Biarritz Le Phare

Significantly damaged in World War II, Golf de Biarritz Le Phare has little resemblance to it’s former layout. Despite being routed over sandy soil, the present course includes tree-lined fairways and is managed more as a parkland course rather than its previous links heritage

Golf de Chantaco

Located close to the fishing town of St Jean de Luz, 30 minutes south from Biarritz, Golf de Chantaco boasts impressive golf facilities. The course was designed by Harry Colt and is routed through woodland with water hazards threatening play on a handful of holes. One of France’s top golf clubs, it has previously hosted numerous tournaments including the French Open in 1970 and the Open de France Dames since 2012.

Golf de Seignosse

Golf de Seignosse is located a couple of kilometres inland from the Bay of Biscay and is known as one of the best golf courses in France. Designed by Robert von Hagge, the course is routed in two clockwise loops of nine holes. A course with a global reputation, it is believed that Jose Maria Olazabal prepares for the Masters here.

Golf du Chateau des Vigiers

Opened in 1992 by Donald Steel, Golf du Chateau des Vigiers provides golfers with an incredible variety of holes. Arranged into 3 loops of 9 holes, the course enables players to experience three different 18-hole courses. In addition to the 27-hole layout, the club boasts a 6-hole academy course, a covered driving range, practice greens and bunkers.

Golf du Medoc

Offering 2 exceptional 18-hole courses just 25 minutes away from Bordeaux, Golf du Medoc is a must-visit on your golf holiday to Aquitaine. Designed by Bill Coore in 1989, the ‘Chateaux’ course was voted the Best Golf Course in France in 2014 by the World Golf Awards.

Grand Saint-Emilionnais Golf Club

Situated within a 250-acre estate close to the UNESCO World Heritage site, Saint Emilion, Grand Saint Emilionnais is one of the most prestigious golf clubs in the country. Routed through a valley lined by oak trees and vineyards, the course was designed by Tom Doak. Laid over undulating countryside, it is minimalistic in style and incorporates water hazards to add difficulty.
