Golf Holidays in North East Italy

North East Italy is the perfect location for a golf holiday in Italy. Featuring a dramatic and varied landscape, the region is bordered by Austria, Switzerland and Slovenia as well as having a coastline facing the Adriatic Sea. In respect of elevation changes, the Alps are in the most northern sector and the Apennines are in the southern sector. In contrast, the region also features a significant amount of the valley of the Po River. It is a result of this diverse landscape that the climate of the region can vary significantly. It is generally more continental on the plains than on the Adriatic Coast and rainfall is more common near the River Po than elsewhere. Whatever the weather, it is these variations that help to transform high-quality courses such as Golf Club Udine into some of the best in Italy.

Must-Visit Golf Courses in North East Italy

Bergamo Golf Club L’Albenza

Designed by CK Cotton in the early 1960s, Bergamo Golf Club L’Abenza was transformed into a 27-hole complex in 1987. Situated in the Orobic hills, the club is routed over hilly wooded terrain. Arranged in three loops of nine holes, the layout is as such that players can experience 3 different 18-hole courses. Host to many international tournaments such as the Italian Open 1996, this course will challenge players of all abilities.

Circolo Golf Venezia

The most prestigious club in Italy and the oldest club in the region, Circolo Golf Venezia opened in 1930. Nestled between the Adriatic Sea and the Lagoon of Venice, the club stretches over 6,199 metres on a narrow strip of land. Originally a 9-hole course, the present 18 holes blend both parkland and links style holes to create a unique and memorable experience.

Franciacorta Golf Club

Franciacorta Golf Club is a 27-hole golf facility that requires a strategic approach from the outset. Measuring 6143 metres, the course was designed by Pete Dye in collaboration with Marco Croze. Made up of the ‘Bruit’ and ‘Saten’ nine, the championship par 73 18-hole layout requires all-round ability if golfers are to score well.

Golf Club Padova

Lying within the spectacular Euganean Hills Regional Park, Golf Club Padova was largely designed by Commander John Harris, with Marco Croze adding nine holes in the 1990s. Laid on mostly flat land, the course features narrow tree-line fairways with numerous water hazards, requiring accuracy and consideration.

Golf Club Udine

Inaugurated in 1972 as a 9-hole course, Golf Club Udine has recently been announced as a European Tour Destination and is a must-visit during your golf holiday to Italy. Lined with ancient oak, wild cherry and alder trees, the course follows the contour of the foothills of the Carnic Alps in Fagagna, providing spectacular views of the area.
