The Best Golf Courses Near Loule
Laguna Vilamoura Golf Course
Of all the courses in Vilamoura, the Laguna Golf Course has earned a reputation for being somewhat of a unique course. American golf architect, Joseph Lee had the difficult task of setting out the Laguna Golf Course across the low-lying coastal terrain. Lee did this perfectly and he was able to establish 18 holes which offer a multitude of playing conditions. The number of holes which replicate characteristics of a standard links layout is what truly makes this course one of a kind.
The first ever ball struck on Laguna Golf Course was in 1990 and ever since the course has come on leaps and bounds. The strategic placing of bunkers and the number of water obstacles across the course demand a high level of accuracy in your play.
Millennium Golf Course
As you may have guessed by the name, the Millennium Golf Course was opened in 2000. The course is compiled of 9 brand new holes and 9 other refurbished hole which had previously formed a section of the original neighbouring 27-hole Laguna Golf Course. The Millennium Course is definitely a more open course than the Laguna Golf Course, however, beware of the course winding between palm trees on holes 3-7.
Water hazards, mainly lakes, on the 17th and 18th holes, ensure you do not become too complacent on a course where a simple course strategy is usually the best approach.
Vila Sol Golf
This course is one of the best courses in the Algarve. The course is located within the Vila Sol Hotel and Golf Resorts, which is set in 75 acres of beautiful natural surroundings.
Preservation of the surrounding natural environment was key when Vila Sol Golf was planned and it has done that perfectly from the start point at tee one, right until the very last hole. The course and resort are surrounded by acres of pine, almond and fig trees, colourful flowers and plenty of lakes and streams. This all adds to the pleasure of a challenging championship golf course.
San Lorenzo Golf Course
The San Lorenzo Golf Course is located on the Quinta do Lago estate, where it takes full advantage of the amazing topography, winding its way over ripples of pine woodland. This course is another golf course near Vilamoura which was designed by American golf architect Joseph Lee. The design and the use of Bermuda grass fairways provide golfers with the perfect playing conditions. Rather uniquely, the San Lorenzo Golf Course makes a figure 8 position. Right in the heart of the course, you will find the San Lorenzo Clubhouse.
The Old Course Golf Club
The Old Course is actually the second oldest course in the Algarve, having being built in the late 1960’s. That being said, this course isn’t down and out, it is very much still one of the top courses in the area. Don’t take anything for granted on this course, it demands precision play from golfers of all abilities. You will not forget a round on this course in a long time, every hole is surrounded by scenery as beautiful as the last. Updates to the course in 1997 have much improved the course and ensured it still stands as one of the best courses in the Algarve.
Victoria Golf Course
This course covers 90 hectares and is rightly known as one of the most complete golf complexes in Europe. Not only is it home to a brilliant golf course, the complex consists of a driving range and also a putting green. This course is no strangers to international tournaments. With many national and international tournaments being held here over the year. Most namely, hosting the Portugal Masters on every occasion since 2007 and the World Cup Championship back in 2005. This course was designed by Arnold Palmer and there is no doubt at all that it has lived up to all expectations.
