The Best Golf Courses Near Valencia
Club de Campo del Mediterraneo
Fans of the golfer Sergio Garcia will enjoy visiting Club de Campo del Mediterraneo whilst staying in Valencia for their golf holiday. The club where Garcia played as a junior and won the 2008 Castello Masters, it is a must-visit for fans of the Spaniard and European Tour alike. Designed by Ramon Espinosa, the course gives golfers the opportunity to escape the bustling city and is routed through a peaceful valley. Lined with olive, poplar and carob trees typical of the region, the 18-hole layout has been played since 1978 and presents a variety of challenging holes.
Club de Golf Escorpion
Host to both the 1980 Spanish Open and the 1984 Spanish Amateur Championship, Club de Golf Escorpion has been established since 1969. Moving to its current location in 1975, the club offers extensive golf facilities and has an excellent reputation for promoting the game amongst young players in Valencia. Featuring three circuits of 9-holes and a par three development course, there are plenty of opportunities to both practice and test your golfing ability. Known as the ‘Azul’ course, Escorpion’s most recognisable layout is made up of the Masia and Lagos nine-hole circuits.
El Bosque Golf & Country Club
Opened in 1975 during Robert Trent Jones’ most prolific spell in Spain, El Bosque Golf & Country Club can be found within a residential estate to the north of Chiva. Laid out in a classical style, the vast majority of fairways are lined by trees, and water hazards are scattered throughout. As is expected from a Trent Jones design, bunkers are frequently at El Bosque and there is an average of five challenging bunkers per hole. Routed over some difficult terrain in places, the course is a true test of all-around ability, particularly when the summer Levante is blowing.
La Galiana Campo de Golf
Situated away from any distractions, La Galiana Campo de Golf is located within a serene Mediterranean forest. Although this is a relatively recent addition to the regions golf opportunities, the course has quickly been recognised as a must-play when visiting the area. Routed through the hilly inland valley terrain, the course features particularly memorable aquatic holes which are not for the faint-hearted. One of the most threatening water hazards can be found on the 10th where a small pond downhill guards the right and rear of the green.
Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort
Designed by the iconic Seve Ballesteros in 1995, the 18-hole course at Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort is one of the finest in the area. Situated south of Valencia, on the Costa Blanca coast, Oliva Nova is an exceptional development featuring numerous sports facilities and accommodation options. However, it is its golf club, surrounded by orange and olive trees and overlooked by magnificent mountains that is the true highlight of the complex. Laid over relatively flat terrain, the course cover approximately 50 hectares and features wide fairways, fast greens and numerous water hazards.
Parador de El Saler
Benefiting from the outstanding beauty of the Albufera Nature Park, Parador de El Saler blends into its natural setting perfectly. Designed by Javier Arana in 1968, the course covers contrasting terrain, with both parkland and links-lovers equally catered for. Regardless of whether the fairways are bordered by umbrella pines or towering sand dunes, the course has hosted numerous prestigious golf tournaments including four Spanish Opens. A long and testing course, water hazards in the form of the Gulf of Valencia are an ever-present threat, whilst the variety of holes requires golfers to have a good all-around ability.
