When and Where is The Open 2018?

The 147th Open will be held between 19th July 2018 and 22nd July 2018 on the Championship Course at Carnoustie Golf Links in Angus, Scotland.

Where to stay near The Open 2018

If you are planning a golfing holiday to The Open 2018, the first place you should consider staying in Edinburgh. Scotland’s capital city. Edinburgh is famous for its historic Old Town and towering castle. Located 35 minutes from Edinburgh Airport, Edinburgh is also close to Glasgow, with transfers from Glasgow Airport to Edinburgh taking approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.

Panmure Golf Club


One of the 26 clubs that originally helped to purchase the Amateur Championship trophy first played for in 1885m Panmure Golf Club was established in 1845. Boasting an 18-hole links course, Panmure has all the characteristics of a championship links course, with Ben Hogan spending two weeks on the course prior to his victory at the Open in 1953.

Monifieth Golf Links


Administered by a local Trust, Monifieth boasts two 18-hole links golf courses on the iconic Angus coastline. With a reputation as a hard, unforgiving course, the ‘Medal’ course is ranked as one of the best golf courses in the area. Stretching 6,650 yards, the course is laid over undulating, hard terrain that is constantly threatened by the prevailing wind blowing from the Firth of Tay.

Montrose Golf Links


One of the oldest golf course in the world, Montrose Golf Links comprises of two golf courses, known as the ‘Medal’ course and ‘Broomfield’. Whilst the ‘Broomfield’ Course is great for beginners; the Medal course provides a true challenge. Located on the rugged Angus coastline, the ‘Medal’ course is a traditional Scottish links that features a springy turf, tall wavy grass and deep bunkers.

Downfield Golf Club


Located within picturesque parkland within the city of Dundee, Downfield Golf Club is an inland course that you no golfer should miss. Host to the inaugural 1982 Scottish Open, this 18-hole course is features manicured fairways lined with more than 100 species of trees and water hazards in the form of ditches and ponds.

Letham Grange


Boasting two 18-hole courses, Letham Grand Golf Club is nestled within spectacular Angus countryside. Designed by Donald Steel and Opened by Sir Henry Cotton in 1987, ‘The Old Course’ is a 6632-yard Championship parkland layout that combines tree-lined, open fairways with memorable water hazards. In contrast, ‘The Glens Course’ has a tighter, shorter layout requiring accuracy and thoughtful play.

Forfar Golf Club


Originally designed by the four-time Open Champion Old Tom Morris, Forfar was established in 1871. Although the course was altered by James Braid in 1926, the layout has remained the same since. Despite being more than 10 miles from the coast, Forfar is laid over links-like undulating terrain. It is this combination of links-like surface and parkland surroundings that make Forfar such a unique and interesting course to play.

Previous Winners of The Open Championship

Jordan Spieth

Hosted at The Royal Birkdale in England, Jordan Speith claimed the victory at the 146th Open in 2017. Through claiming his victory, Speith had won the Masters Tournament, the US Open and The Open crowns by the age of 23.

Rory McIlroy

Winning by two strokes from Rickie Fowler and Sergio Garcia, Rory McIlroy won claimed the title at the 143rd Open at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in 2014. As a result of his win, McIlroy became the 3rd youngest player to win three different Majors, behind the iconic Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.

Tiger Woods

With three Open Championship wins, numerous memorable Tiger Woods golf moments have been created during the tournament. One of the most memorable came following his latest win in 2006 when he became the first player since Tom Watson in 1983 to successfully retain his title.

Padraig Harrington

Padraig Harrington has set numerous European records during the Open. Winner of the 2007 Championship, he was the first European in eight years to win a Major Championship. In the following year at Royal Birkdale, Harrington then became the first European to retain his title since James Braid in 1906.
