The Best Golf Courses Near Barcelona
Club de Golf de Barcelona
Part of a larger complex that includes a swimming pool and squash courts, Club de Golf de Barcelona is considered to be one of the toughest golf courses in Spain. Routed over the hilly terrain of the Penedes wine growing region, the layout was designed by Jose Maria Olazabal in 1990. Featuring demanding elevation changes, many golfers choose to use a buggy when visiting and it is advised to warm up on the 9-hole practice course before attempting the main course.
Club de Golf Llavaneras
Founded in 1945, Club de Golf Llavaneras is one of the oldest golf clubs in Catalonia. A family club that prides itself on its friendly atmosphere, Golf Llavaneras boasts a spectacular 18-hole par 70 course. Routed over 34 hectares of soft ground, the course was designed by FW Hawtree and later extended by Ramon Espinosa, Alfornso Magi Sarda and Vidaor. Featuring narrow green, protective bunkering and threatening water hazards, the course is extremely challenging yet suitable for players of all abilities.
Club de Golf Sant Cugat
Located just 5 miles north of Barcelona city centre and boarded by city housing on all sides, Club de Golf Cugat offers golfers an escape from city life. Avoiding residential encroachment since being founded by British and American expatriates, the course was remodelled in 2004 to its present state. Originally designed by the iconic Harry Colt, Sant Cugat demands accuracy over power, with its total length measuring 6,200 yards.
Club de Golf Terramar
Situated close to the popular resort town of Sitges, Club de Golf Terramar’s present configuration was designed, reshaped and regressed by Jim Fazio Golf Design in 1993. Divided into the two parts by the main railway south from Barcelona, the courses features numerous water hazards, testing par threes and short par fives.
Golf Club D’Aro
Recognised as the “Best European Golf Course” by the European Society of Golf Course Architects in 1992, the Aro-Mas Nou layout was founded in 1990 and has been the host of numerous prestigious golf tournaments including the 2006 Catalonia Ladies Masters and the 2015 Campeonato Internacional de Espana (Sub 18-Stroke Play). Featuring 2 artificial lakes which threaten play on the 2nd and 15th holes, the course sits at an altitude of 300m, causing golf balls to fly further with a lower club.

One of the most prestigious golf clubs in Barcelona, Real Club de Golf El Prat was founded in 1912. Known then as ‘Barcelona Golf Club’, the golf club was forced to move to a new location in 1954 between El Prat de Llobregat and the Mediterranean Coast, resulting in the club changing its name.
